Competition Rules

Uniform Policy

All competition sanctioned by NFHS requires athletes to wear school issued uniforms. Club/Unattached are sanctioned by USATF and should follow USATF rules. 

False Starts

One false start disqualifies the athlete who committed the offense.

Maximum Number of Events Per Athlete

As per USATF youth and NFHS rules, an athlete may not compete in more than 4 events. A 55 prelim and final counts as one as does a 4×200 prelim and final.

Horizontal Jumps

All athletes must check in before the first flight (no exceptions).

Each flight will have 15 minutes to warm up on their given runway.

Throwing Implements

Implement inspection will be conducted before each event. 

The boy’s shot put will be 12 lb. and the weight throw will be 25 lb.

The girl’s shot put will be 4 kg and the weight throw will be 20 lb.

Spike Policy

Spikes can not exceed ¼ inch in length and must be pyramids. No christmas tree or needle points allowed.

Hurdles

The boy’s hurdles are 39 inches tall and the girl’s hurdles are 33 inches tall.

Starting Blocks

Starting blocks will be permitted for all Varsity, Novice, Sophomore, and Freshman sprint finals, including the 55-meter dash, 55-meter hurdles, and 4x200-meter relay.

Please note that starting blocks will not be used during the trial rounds.

Relays

The 4×200 relay will be conducted using a THREE-TURN stagger. The 4×400 relay will be conducted using a TWO-TURN stagger. The 4×800 will use a TWO-TURN alley start.

The 20m exchange zone will be used for all relays.

Relay Batons

Meet management WILL provide batons at the start of the race.

Relay Cards

All coaches must fill in relay cards and the relay team must submit the relay card to the clerk when they check in. Relay cards are available at the clerking area.
